Muslims plotting murder of infidels: Must be Wednesday

In the tradition of retooling the English language to gloss over the inherent violence of a growing faction of fundamentalists, a plot to execute large scale carnage and murder on an office filled with journalists and possibly a synagogue, is now called a "newspaper plot". 

My, that sounds insidious.  And aren't we all relieved to hear the mastermind is an immigration consultant on both sides of the border?!

And another Canadian University gets crossed off the list of prospects for my eldest son's upcoming law studies...

An Ottawa university professor accused in the deadly terrorist bombing of a French synagogue nearly 30 years ago is expected to resume teaching at Carleton University this week.

Hassan Diab, who is accused of murdering four people in the 1980 bombing, will begin teaching a part-time introductory sociology course at Carleton two days a week between now and the middle of August.

...sounds like the perfect candidate to teach a sociology course.

Meanwhile, regular folks are often still confused and surprised to find that once-vaunted learning institutions like Carleton University and Osgoode Hall are turning out semi-literate retards and crackpots.

Let them wonder no longer.

in a terse statement released yesterday afternoon, the university said that a full-time faculty member "will immediately replace the current instructor, Hassan Diab."

The move was being made to provide students "with a stable, productive academic environment that is conducive to learning," the statement said.

My two cents

On this...

My first husband was Bulgarian -- not exactly a place that hemorrhages refugees.

His best friend was a guy who grew up in the flat below his family and by all accounts, lived an average Bulgarian life.  He was of a darker complexion, dark hair and dark olive skin.  This turned out to be his ticket to the life when his network of friends, who had all gamed the Canadian immigration system for all they were worth, advised him that with the help of a sufficiently generic sob story, his appearance would help him claim refugee status as a Bulgarian Roma.

And they were right.

Within a year of claiming -- after having already been here for more than 2 years, illegally -- he was granted refugee status as a victim of discrimination.

Things don't seem to be much different in the Czech Republic.

And they wonder why many Canadians resent immigrants.

Open door and open wallets

On top of giving immigrantsa place of refuge, access to opportunity and privileged access to social services, we also provide people with no income and no assets, loans for up to $10,000 each..?

The immigration department now provides up to $10,000 for transportation and medical costs to refugees who are sponsored by churches or community groups.

The money is handed out with the understanding it will be repaid when the refugees start working.

But apparently, even this is not considered generous enough...

The newcomers have a hard time making ends meet and shouldn't be saddled with repaying the loans, said Janet Dench of the Canadian Council for Refugees.

"We would like the federal government to absorb the costs of these loans," she said.

"Refugee families start their life in Canada with a debt of up to $10,000 that they must repay with interest.

"These loans are holding them hostage when they are just starting out."

The council estimates it will cost about $38 million to cover the loans and $15 million yearly to pay for new arrivals.

Yet, having been born hereand paid taxes here my entire life, I was still expected to pay back every penny of my student loans, with interest.

At $10,000 per head, for travel and medical expenses, wouldn't it be cheaper for the immigration department to run their own airline and medical facility, just to cut out the middle man?

See?  Instead of just bitching about how things are, we're all about solutions here at The Lasso!

One in four men in South Africa may have raped someone - with most of those attacking more than one victim, data from a new survey suggests.

The study, by the country's Medical Research Council, also found three out of four who admitted rape attacked for the first time while in their teens.

It said practices such as gang rape were common because they were considered a form of male bonding.

What I find really shocking (but not) is the fact that the practice is so accepted there, that 1 in 4 men didn't think twice about admitting to it to surveyors.

Thousands of hyphenated-Canadians disrupt traffic and movement throughout the city for weeks, cart their own children onto a major highway to shield them from police action, and promise more and more of the same if their demands for government intervention into a regional conflict thousands of miles away are not met, but I'm a racist because I'm sick to death of having my city held hostage by these Canadians of convenience?

Just making sure I've got that straight.

Not wanting to be left out of the supposed genocide in their homeland, thousands of Tamil-Canadians seem eager to spark one in their adopted home...

Tamil protesters last night shut down the Gardiner Expressway for hours and occupied College St. and University Ave., crippling downtown traffic and sparking what was sure to be a backlash against the increasingly brazen and controversial tactics of the demonstrators.

The protesters occupied the Gardiner until midnight, when they peacefully walked off the highway.

Not a single charge or arrest for shutting down a major artery in and out of the country's largest city on Mother's Day weekend...no one forced off by a riot squad...

Nice leadership we have in this city.

It makes me wonder why we continue to process applications from countries wherethe fraud rate is higher than the legitimacy rate..?

At the Chandigarh mission in the first nine months of 2008, more people had their applications for temporary visas to Canada rejected than accepted. The split was 9,781 rejected, and 8,641 accepted -- a rejection rate of 56%, according to immigration department figures.

Meanwhile, visa applications from Yemen are due to have a spike any day now.

Who lets these people in..?

Darwish, a Canadian citizen who works full-time at Home Depot and has a part-time job removing carpet, was arrested Dec. 24 while entering the United States at Buffalo.

The U.S. Justice Department filed a criminal complaint Monday in Maryland, where Darwish had previously worked as a restaurant cook while allegedly providing secrets to Iraqi government officials and intelligence officers.

Prosecutors said documents seized by U.S. troops after the invasion of Iraq in March 2003 establish that Darwish was paid by the Iraqi Intelligence Service for "assistance." One of the documents, dated Aug. 6, 2002, indicates Darwish provided information that Iraqi volunteers were being trained by the U.S. military in Virginia and getting $2,000 (U.S.) a month.

In conversations recorded by the FBI in 2003 and 2004, Darwish, who also was a driver and part-time accounting assistant at the Iraqi embassy, is heard telling co-conspirators about activities by the Iraqi ambassador and other Iraqi government officials associated with the interim government following the fall of Saddam's regime

And where are his wife and three children now?
